A pall of gloom has befallen on the valley of Kashmir yet again. But the wishful thinking of the ‘paradise on earth’ to regain its peaceful glorious days is filling India’s hearts full of desire. People in the past have commented on its abundant scenic beauty and picturesque vistas, but today’s visual commentary weaves narratives around death and agony. Not many contemporary artists have made Kashmir as their muse, but Kashmiri painter Dina Nath Walli stayed true to his place of birth throughout his life.
From touristy destinations like Gulmarg to Dal Lake to the cultural ecosystem of Kashmir, Walli has captured the essence of Kashmir in his watercolour paintings. All we hope and wish for is that peace prevails in the Valley.
