This discussion will touch upon Maritime trade and the city’s earliest formed identity, that of a port, as well as its synergies, influences and cross dialogues with similar port cities. This talk will address the use of The Sea as a Protagonist in the work of artists and as represented in print. This panel will also touch upon how creative individuals engage with the life-giving significance, mythologies, stories and, now, more recently, crises related to the sea and its resources and origins. These experts will also discuss local marine wildlife, ecology, topographies and ecosystems of our city’s coastline while taking cognizance of environmental crises and polluting factors which are impacting the water body that has nurtured us for centuries- and discuss how we need to re-evaluate our relationship with the sea while protecting this increasingly threatened resource.
