Way before pigeons became messengers for loved ones, rain used to unite lovers. From the time immemorial we have seen monsoons being the best season to romance, dance, rejoice and spend best of time with yourself and others.

Taking you to the time when songs created history. Raj Kapoor’s performances worked as a magic spell on the audience and PYAAR HUA IQRAAR HUA (1955) tops the list because of its evergreen romance . This song is so beautiful and popular that you can find it in every kind of list like most romantic songs, best Hindi songs, Best Rain Songs in Bollywood etc. From  the movie Shree 420, sung by Mukesh, composed by Shankar-Jaikishen and lyrics penned by Shailendra.  EK LADKI BHEEGI BHAAGI SI (1958) is unavoidable as Kishore Kumar and Madhubala looked beautiful in this funny and quirky songs. Sung by Kishore Da himself from movie Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. Music was composed by Sachin Dev Burman and Lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. DUM DUM DIGA DIGA got its name engraved in gold with Raj kapoor’s breathless performance in chhaliya (1960)

Then came a time when Amitabh Bachan swayed girls with RIM JHIM GIRE SAAWAN (1979) and AAJ RAPAT JAE (1982). these two songs are the best example how monsoon is best for soul lovers to passionate ones.
With the changing scenario monsoon songs were no longer subjected to romanticism. Sridevi’s NA JANE KAHA SE AAI HAI (1989) from the movie chalbaaz sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and Amit Kumar is one of those few songs where Sridevi is actually having fun in rain .while dancing on peppy numbers are considered to be cool this song is actually seen setting the trend standards high that too with Sridevi dancing in it which means just keep gazing for next couple of minutes because this is the best you could have seen at the moment.
While we did get to see Sridevi dancing to KATE NHI KATTE YE DIN YE RAAT in Mr India (1987) wooing every men and not just Anil Kapoor we surely cannot deny Raveena Tandon’s performance in TIP TIP BARSA PANI,MOHRA(1994) still makes people skip a beat while she dances in that wet yellow saree making it to one of the most iconic songs of Bollywood ever. The background music of this song was made using electronic sound and even today people fall into prey of loving this song the moment they here it’s first tune. Only if one realize how much we have loved to see these actresses dancing to these songs , we cannot miss Madhuri Dixit Nene with Sharukh Khan splashing water and dancing around with kids in CHAK DHOOM DHOOM, Dil To Pagal hai(1997) did get a lot of freshness for audience and all thanks to Shiamak’s debut choreography in bollywood.

Bollywood was flooding with monsoon songs , when some of the individual albums did strike the right chord with the audience like ABKE SAWAN AISE BARSE by Shubha Mudgal(2007). The song described the essence of first rain of the season leaving an impact that lasts longer than many special moments of life . Not only it brings in joy of dancing in rain as kids but those unexpected moments in everyday life our loved ones bring in to make monsoons special. Shubha mudgal was considered to be youth icon in 90’s . Her voice still is considered to be one of the most impactful voices of the era which were more dominant in songs than there music.

Not forgetting Adnan Sami’s BHEEGI BHEEGI RATON MEIN(2000) where his voice and the magic he creates with his hands on his piano is again recreated through this song. This song is a soothing number highlighting the longing of a lonesome lover on a desolate rainy night

Though this does not end the era we did have many others like BARSO RE MEGHA;GURU (2007),IDHAR CHALA MAIN UDHAR CHALA;KOI MIL GAYA (2003), YE SAZISH HAI BOONDO KI;FANAA(2006) which created this saga immortal.
