In a lighter vein

Ashvin Gidwani’s ‘Two to Tango, Three to Jive’ is just like a box of chocolate, the moment you open it you just can’t resist it by having one piece.
This is a restart for this production after a gap of about six months, starting off with Delhi this time, and we are glad we managed to catch it! Opening on Hank Williams’ ‘Hey, Good Lookin’, Saurabh Shukla enters and in his own inimitable style immediately owns the evening.
This play deals with the encounters of Parminder Singh Sethi (Saurabh Shukla), a well off Delhi hotelier as he tries his hand at an extramarital affair. He chances upon three women, Shomali (Achint Kaur), a fiesty and cold-hearted woman, Rinki (Sadiya Siddiqui), a struggling artist and Savita (Preeti Mamgain), a woman who eventually forces Parminder to rethink his lifestyle choices. The characterisation of the leading ladies has been done beautifully and that very character brings in a different essence to the play – also a reason that you don’t find any dull moment in those 130 minutes.
The play gives the audience a lot of hilarious moments to enjoy, situations that have been cleverly created by Saurabh Shukla who happens to be the director as well. It culminates into a beautiful monologue wherein Parminder reflects and opens up to whatever he has been through in his life.
Our verdict: this is a classic piece of theatre which brings out marriage and life crisis in a subtle humorous way. Next time they are in town, make sure you see it too.
