A Glimpse into the Legacy of Murad Ali Khan
The evening promises an extraordinary journey through the world of Indian classical music, led by Murad Ali Khan, one of the most prominent sarangi artists of his generation. As a sixth-generation musician from the Moradabad Gharana, his lineage dates back to the 18th century, symbolizing a legacy that has withstood the test of time.
Murad Ali Khan’s musical journey was shaped by his father, Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan, and his grandfather, Ustad Siddique Ahmad Khan, both revered sarangi masters. He also received invaluable guidance from Padmashri Shubha Mudgal and the late Ustad Rashid Khan. His dedication to the preservation and growth of the sarangi tradition is evident, as he devotes his time to mentoring the next generation of musicians.
In this performance, Murad Ali Khan will be joined by his disciples from the Saurang Parampara Ensemble and will engage in a riveting dialogue with Aneesh Pradhan, a renowned tabla virtuoso, musicologist, and writer. Together, they will explore the deep cultural and musical significance of the sarangi.
The Legacy Series: A Celebration of Heritage
The Legacy Series, organized by KNMA, celebrates the generational transmission of artistic knowledge. It acknowledges the important role of hereditary lineages in preserving India’s rich performing arts traditions. The passing down of techniques, compositions, and nuances is fundamental to ensuring these art forms continue to thrive.
By honoring these dedicated efforts, the Legacy Series pays tribute to the perseverance of artists and their commitment to enriching our cultural heritage for future generations.
