Kolkata-based Center of International Modern Art (CIMA) celebrates its three-decade journey with a series of exhibitions across six months from December 22, 2023, to May 25, 2024. Over 30 years, CIMA has spotlighted the brilliance of Indian art and redefined the boundaries of creative expression.
The celebrations are divided into two parts: The first leg features a showcase of 12 masters exhibition that is further divided into three phases. It will run at CIMA from December 22 to April 13. The final leg of the celebrations will culminate with the 30th-anniversary show ‘Fantastic Realities and Beyond Exhibition’ which will first travel to the Visual Arts Gallery in February 2024. And will then be seen at the CIMA gallery in April.
These exhibitions illuminate the broader cultural idiom of artistic masters of our times. The 12 masters exhibition features works of artists such as Arpita Singh, Ganesh Pyne, Jogen Chowdhury, Bikash Bhattacharjee, Somnath Hore, Lalu Prasad Shaw, and more.
The 30th-anniversary show titled ‘Fantastic Realities and Beyond’ opens at the Visual Arts Gallery on February 28, 2024. The show features works by 36 artists, encompassing celebrated figures, emerging talents, and anonymous contributors. It will be showcased at CIMA from April 26 to May 25.
In addition, the celebrations also include conferring the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to three distinguished recipients – Dr Alka Pande, artist Sushen Ghosh and Ruby Palchoudhari for their outstanding achievements in the field of art and culture.
