A Reflective Oeuvre: The Pioneering Photographs of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II is an exhibition curated by Giles Tillotson, Mrinalini Venkateswaran, Rahaab Allana. This travelling exhibition will present rare works from the archive of the City Palace Museum, Jaipur, revealing Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II’s early engagement with photography as reportage and improvisation. Adept at portraiture (including self-imaging) and urban documentation in the 1860s and ’70s, his repertoire reveals a self-reflective persona, and offers visual citations to the practitioner’s oeuvre thereby generating a visual autobiography. Selected works of Jaipur based artist, Nandan Ghiya are also on display. The collaborators for the exhibition are Art Heritage; The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts; Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust, City Palace, Jaipur and Exhibit 320.
