Sabita Agrawal hails from colder pastures in Kathmandu, Nepal and her watercolour pieces are reflective of her connection with the mountains, the people and the animals that inhabit those spaces. Excerpts from her interview with ACF

To trace your journey into the world of art.
Started my art  journey in early 1990 with Srijana Art Gallery (college) Kathmandu Nepal. I have a Diploma in fine arts and commerce. I am a member of FIPA Forum of Indian Photographer and artist, IWS International Water Colour Society Nepal, Traditional art Nepal. My first exhibition Famous Five in 1996 gave me my first break in Nepal. Since then, I have participated in many group exhibition in Delhi, Nepal, and Russia. My art works have been showcased in many premier galleries like Lalit Kala Akademi Delhi, Open Palm Court IHC Delhi, Epicenter Gurgoan, AIFACS, Arpana Art Gallery, Russian Center of Science & Culture. I have also worked as an art teacher in winter camp at Srijana Art Gallery and contributed a small part from my side by sharing proceeds from sale of my paintings for the victims of earthquake with a special online charity drive – ‘ Tribute to Nepal ‘ through a local NGO in Nepal .What is the medium that you like to work with?
I like to work with acrylic, oil, charcoal, soft pastel, pen and ink, but right now watercolor and Thangka art are my priority.Transparent character of water colour, the way it plays hide and seek with light and shade inspire me to explore it more…

Who are the artists that you have worked with.
Well known artist Krishna Manandher is my mentor till date. I learnt charcoal from D N Dongol, watercolor from NB Gurung and Thangka art from Prachanda Shakya. They all are masters in their respective field in Nepal .
School of art that you have been inspired by. Styles that you like to emulate.
Traditional art is my soul. Portraits and realism of life are my main subjects. Transparency of emotions is what I look for in art.
